Murder at the Burlesque – Fri Sept 5, Sept 26, Oct 31 & Nov 28!

Beginning Friday Sept 5 and running over 4 episodes, Black Swan Comedy/The Social Capital in conjunction with Red Herring Burlesque presents a 4-part improv film noir mystery that will feature burlesque!

Join an all-star cast of improvisers and burlesque artists in a riveting tale of guns, guys, gals, gats and gams, all set at “Chez Rouge,” a burlesque club and site of murderous mystery and steamy subterfuge!

Each episode is directed by Ralph MacLeod.

Tues. Sept 9 – Clown: The Mullet Method (8-week workshop)

Starting on Tuesday September 9, Allan Turner, the brain behind popular Toronto clown and talk-show host Jean-Paul Mullet, will lead a workshop for performers and emerging artists who want to discover their inner clown in a supportive, fun environment!

Tues. Sept 9 – Intro To SoCap Improv (8-week workshop)

Also starting on Tuesday September 9, one of Canada’s top improv players and instructors, Frank McAnulty, starts The Social Capital’s introductory course to improv! Learn about character and relationship, “being in the moment,” making connections, all while having fun and enjoying play.

Thurs. Sept 13 – Introduction to Fiction with Ibi Kaslik (10-week workshops)

Beginning Saturday September 18, author and writing instructor Ibi Kaslik leads a workshop for beginner writers and people with some fiction-writing experience, which will focus and enhance their writing skills through analysis and practice, both through in-class and take-home assignments. By the end of this guided workshop, each student will have at least one well-polished piece of short fiction which they have created.

Note there will be no workshop on Saturday October 11 due to Thanksgiving.

Thurs. Sept 18 – Creative Writing Workshop with Erinn Beth Langille (10-week workshops)

Beginning Thursday September 18, acclaimed Toronto author and all-around Renaissance person Erinn Beth Langille leads the Creative Writing Through Reading workshop for all writing levels. In it, you will analyze classic literature to enhance and empower your own writing process!

Social Capital Theatre/Black Swan Comedy will be holding auditions for improvisers to join its Repertory Training Program on Sunday September 21, Tuesday September 23, and Thursday September 25!

Weekly Public Drop-In Workshops!

Map to workshopsBlack Swan Comedy runs weekly public drop-in improv comedy workshops, every Saturday night, 6:00–7:30 PM, in our new studios across the street from the theatre at 115 Danforth Ave., 2nd floor! (The entrance is between the Nails shop and Ali Baba’s.)

Whether you want to fine-tune your skills or try it out for the first time, all experience levels are welcome.

Learn how to do improv, make new friends, or just have a bit of fun, all for only $5!
